Timber Products Logistics Acquires New Eastern Hub Facility and Lays Out Plans to Expand East
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Timber Products Company announces the acquisition of a 20-acre facility in Thomson, Georgia that will serve as the Eastern hub for the rapidly expanding TP Logistics. This acquisition allows Timber Products to provide full 3PL services, an enhanced customer experience, and expansion of our vertical integration into the Southeast U.S. This is the first in a series of planned acquisitions as TP Logistics begins to spread it’s footprint across the U.S.
“We are excited to expand our operations further into the Southeast U.S. This will enable us to grow our Logistics operation and expand our truck fleet in the East,” said Tom Gennarelli, VP of TP Logistics and TP Trucking.
TP Trucking currently operates 160 flatbed trucks in the lower 48 states. In addition to its assetbased trucking services, they also provide brokerage services and Class A equipment maintenance and body repair out of the Central Point, Oregon facility. With over 120 drivers and 40 owner operators within the current fleet, TP Trucking intends to increase its fleet size by 30% (to 500 trucks) over the next five years. This growth will be possible via acquisitions, organic growth, and additional reload and trans load opportunities in key markets across the country.
This new facility has 75,000 square feet of indoor storage space and will include a maintenance shop, driver’s lounge, truck wash, and tarping station, as well as extra storage space outdoors.
In addition to trucking and transload services, the facility has rail access to the CSXT and will allow Timber Products the ability to cross dock from coast to coast. This location provides a direct rail and truck link to other Timber Products manufacturing facilities. It also provides TP Global and all other customers with convenient access to the port of Savannah, Georgia. The site has the ability to load/unload boxcar, center beam, flat cars, and containers.
The facility will serve as home to 20 short-haul and long-haul trucks with the capacity to transload three cars per week. Long term plans include adding more trucks to the fleet, a full service, two-bay maintenance shop for Class A trucks and equipment, and the ability to transload more than 20 cars per week.
The experienced team of warehouse employees will have state-of-the-art technology to track inventory and warehouse shipments in real-time as well as the ability to store, reload/unload, cross dock and strip containers. All services offered from the Thomson facility will have access to the TP Trucking fleet with increased capacity and the ability to loop from East to West, port to port.
This fleet includes Conestoga’s, Open Deck and Curtain Side trailers. Additionally, in the west, there are Maxi and Residual trailers which could expand East. TP Trucking offers dedicated services as well as committed programs for key customers.
Timber Products is committed to continued growth and will add similar TP Logistics operations in Texas and Indianapolis over the next several months. The new Thomson, Georgia facility is set to open in January 2021.
