Sugatsune Collaborates with Decotone Surfaces for KBIS

Sugatsune America, Inc. collaborates with Decotone Surfaces for the 2025 KBIS and IBS show at the Las Vegas Convention Center February 25-27, 2025.  This year, the team selected to highlight Sugatsune’s popular Monoflat Flush Sliding Door System, the MFU1200, with an innovative product from Noblewood.

“The story of how Noblewood came to be, inspired me, says Curtis Nakamura, Sr. Vice President of Sugatsune America. “It is a story about recycling teak wood from old houses and repurposing them to create handcrafted wall panel systems for projects around the world.”

In 2016, founders Scott Hendrix and Mark Fortney set out to use the resources they possessed to make other peoples’ lives better.  Meeting a family in Indonesia with excellent skills in crafting beautiful teak products, Scott and Mark partnered with them with a mission to create an artisan paneling system made completely from rescued teak wood.  They coupled these skills with an exclusive patent pending technology that impregnates the teak wood with an environmentally friendly flame retardant and smoke suppressant, receiving a Class A result when tested.

Since then, Noblewood has built a thriving business that not only produces a high-quality product from 100 percent recycled materials but has helped to transform a community.  According to Noblewood’s website, the positive impact of these jobs has provided a level of financial security to families that would not otherwise exist.

“It was mentioned to me that this product gave Indonesian mothers with young children an opportunity to work while still being at home raising their kids, and immediately, the product looked even more beautiful,” says Nakamura.

Decotone Surfaces, a leading provider of decorative surfacing products in North America, distributes Noblewood’s products in the U.S. and has collaborated with Sugatsune for their KBIS/IBS booth.

“We have worked with Sugatsune for many years and with Noblewood’s beautiful product, we felt there was an opportunity for this to showcase Sugatsune’s hidden doors,” says Drew Diamond, President of Dectontone Surfaces. “We like this product and most importantly, their story aligns with our commitment to sustainability.”

Nakamura adds, “Decotone Surfaces offers amazing products with amazing features, from anti-fingerprint technology to ultra-high-definition designs, we are fortunate to be able to feature their products in our tradeshow booths.  And let me tell you, if they are durable enough to survive tradeshows, you can only imagine how good they are in residential and commercial applications.”
