The Future Starts Now
Project Renaissance, Uniboard's latest venture now underway, is poised to revolutionize particleboard production in North America.
When the construction of a continuous press and 10-foot-wide finishing line is complete, Uniboard will have invested more than $350 million in their mill at Val-d’Or, Quebec.
“We are not just creating panels, we are shaping the future of the entire industry,” says Luca Cirella, Uniboard process engineer.
In 2016, the company embarked on a transformative journey to reaffirm its position as an industry leader by upgrading its Val-d’Or mill through a meticulously planned three-phase project. The upgrades began with phases one and two, with Uniboard investing more than $100,000 to modernize their wood-handling facilities.
“We knew that to meet the changing needs of our customers and the industry, we had to invest in advanced technologies and capabilities,” says Frederic Cossette, director of the Val d’Or Mill.
The first part of phase three, a new distribution complex inaugurated in August 2023 is complete and officials say the foundation is now laid for the next, most important chapter — the construction of the new press, a $250 million project expected to be completed in 2025.
This cutting-edge technology promises to completely redefine industry standards, enhancing Uniboard’s production capacity from 300,000 cubic meters to 500,000 cubic meters and drastically increasing their range of available sizes and thicknesses.
