Hymmen’s third edition of the Tech-Together in-house exhibition event was held in Bielefeld, Germany, October 8-9.

Hymmen officials say they were surprised by the lively interest, taking the still-difficult market situation into account. Coming from several European countries, about as many visitors as during the last in-house exhibition two years ago, took a close look at production technologies in the in-house technical center in Rödinghausen. These ranged from digital printing technology and press and coating systems to the Industry Intelligence solution smart2i. Brand new exhibits included technologies to produce engineered wood.

Tech-Together at Hymmen

Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. October 8-9, visitors attended interesting live demonstrations of Hymmen's production technologies, supplemented by presentations and discussions with Hymmen experts.

The production of the latest “Hymmen Collection 2024” on the Digital Lacquer Embossing (DLEplus) line, whose technology is successfully in use worldwide, could be followed at close range. Examples of flooring samples were available for real “touch and feel.” Digital decor printing using a wide range of technologies (UV-drying and water-based) on panels and from roll to roll in various widths could also be examined directly on the machines.

Next door, large format samples — kindly provided to Hymmen by a customer — were on display as eye-catchers. The outstanding mirror high gloss and super matt surfaces were produced using Hymmen's lacquer finishing technology (Calender Coating Inert, CCI).

Another highlight for Engineered Wood customers could be found in the neighboring hall. The new in-house built laboratory press for extra-high-pressure and formats is installed there, where pressing processes for engineered wood panels including SWP and plywood can be tested. The technology includes an individually realized glue application for SWP. CPL and other products manufactured using this technology could be seen on the double belt press next door.

The systems in live operation are all connected to the latest Industry Intelligence solution smart2i. Visitors could see in real time how relevant production parameters can be recorded, displayed and analyzed in the cloud-based software. Easy-to-use dashboards give users access to relevant production data at any time and from anywhere, allowing them to derive appropriate measures to optimize production and increase efficiency.

The live demonstration of production controlling, which can also include non-Hymmen systems for external customers, was underpinned theoretically by an expert in this field to round off the 2024 in-house exhibition. Guest speaker Ingo Laqua, CIM Aachen, gave an entertaining keynote speech on the topic of production controlling. This was supplemented by a case study from Dirk Conrad with Hesse Lignal, who impressed the audience with the benefits of the smart2i application in his application environment.

Lunch and coffee provided an additional opportunity for cross-company exchange. Hymmen officials say they already are looking forward to the fourth edition of the in-house Tech-Together event in 2026.

To the Tech-Together event as a whole

What launched in 2021 as a joint initiative by committed machine and plant manufacturers from OWL has now become a permanent fixture in the woodworking industry. “It's about showcasing innovations, exchanging ideas and shaping the future of woodworking together — and that's exactly the spirit we felt again this year,” summarized Almut Rademacher, Managing Director of the industry and competence network OWL-Maschinenbau, which traditionally supports the ‘Tech-Together - Wood-working Competence.’

The following companies took part in the event:

Düspohl Maschinenbau GmbH, Heinrich KUPER GmbH, Hymmen GmbH Maschinen- und Anla-genbau, Jowat SE, Karl Heesemann Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, Koch Technology GmbH & Co. KG, Lehbrink Spezialmaschinen GmbH, MB Maschinenbau GmbH, Wehrmann Holzbearbei-tungsmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG
