Kernersville, N.C.
On October 23, 2018, a Groundbreaking Ceremony took place at Grass America for a new 73,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehousing facility. The US-based manufacturer of functional hardware and movement systems for the kitchen, bath, and woodworking industries is beginning work on their expansion at the Grass facility located on Highway 66 South in Kernersville, NC. The project is expected to cost an estimated $ 30 million.
The new expansion, expected to be completed in 2020, will allow the company to increase the capacity and expand the capabilities of manufacturing in North Carolina. “The plan is to increase the amount and level of production in order to meet our growing customer demands,” said Tom Kipp, President of Grass America. “This expansion will provide both needed manufacturing as well as warehouse space.” The project is scheduled to generate 23 new positions over the next 18 months and 44 new positions over the next three years.
Grass America moved to its current location on Highway 66 South in February 1985 from its original site on South Park Drive. The original plant and office area was 40,000 square feet.
This will be the fifth expansion for Grass America, bringing the facility size to approximately 330,000 square feet. Grass America has been operating in the US, solely in Kernersville, for the past 40 years.
Special guests included Mayor Dawn Morgan of Kernersville; Josh Ward, National Association of Manufacturing; Representatives from the Winston- Salem and Kernersville Chambers of Commerce; Representatives from the Forsyth County government as well as the NC Department of Commerce.
Grass America produces 40+% of its total hardware sold and distributed throughout the United States. Distribution partners and salespeople are positioned nationwide. Today Grass America is owned by the Würth Group, an international organization based in Germany.
