EGGER Group receives ISO 38200 certificate

EGGER implements a new, globally valid standard for the transmission of information along the supply chain of wood and wood-based products.

The ISO 38200 provides a globally valid, internationally recognised standard for the product chain of wood and wood-based products. It regulates the transmission of information along the supply chain: from logging to delivery to the end customer. As one of the first wood-based materials manufacturers worldwide, the EGGER Group meets the high requirements of the new standard.

The EGGER Group is known as an outspoken promotor and catalyser of sustainable forestry and the responsible handling of resources. Sustainable procurement is a matter of course for EGGER, including compliance with national and European laws, such as the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR). In order to live up to its responsibilities and pioneer role, EGGER has now expanded its due diligence system (DDS) to include the standards of the new ISO 38200.

ISO 38200: Transparency from the point of logging to the end customer

With the ISO 38200, the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) has created another crucial internationally recognised and globally valid standard. It regulates the transfer of information along the entire product chain of wood and wood-based products. The traceability of wood or wood-based products is made more transparent, and proof of origin and legality is guaranteed through continuous monitoring of the supply chain. In addition to general aspects of control and inspection, the standard also categorises social criteria, environmental criteria, and DDS requirements.

Clear commitment to sustainable forestry

The new ISO 38200 standard also helps EGGER with the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and also enables EGGER to present its sustainability indicators in an even more comprehensive and detailed manner. "Forward-thinking action, which is also geared to future generations, is based on ecological, economic, and social sustainability and has always been our established practice. With the Group-wide implementation of the ISO 38200 standard, we are setting a further step towards promoting sustainable forestry beyond meeting all legal requirements, “ stresses Walter Schiegl, who is responsible for technology, production, and purchasing within the EGGER Group Management.

Diligence is paramount for EGGER

The ISO 38200 standard now reinforces the EGGER Due Diligence System (DDS), which is continuously improved. To this end, EGGER has entered in April 2018 into an external EUTR monitoring agreement with the Swiss SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance SA) under Article 8 of EU Regulation 995/2010. Third-party control mechanisms such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC® C 017963) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) are used in addition.
