Given the diversity of lifestyles, demographic change, the digital transformation, and a more and more conscious approach to the environment, living spaces are being designed with much more individuality. This requires new solutions for the future.
Our trend book presents the current major trends – themes that describe the various preferences and lifestyles of consumers around the world. As an international design team, we at Schattdecor are therefore offering a forecast of global trends, with reference to key developments in interior design and new decors.
Urbanization caused by population growth has become a necessity, and it goes hand in hand with the development of infrastructure in towns and cities. Whereas mainly young people moved to the city in the past, an increasing number of families and senior citizens will follow in the future. This is because cities offer the necessary infrastructure for new communities, and they provide accessibility without barriers. This social change will have an effect on a wide range of areas. Home furnishings, for example, will be affected at a fundamental level.
When it comes to furniture and flooring, there is a trend towards bright colors, white, grey, and beige, as well as fine woods such as pine, elm and oak with its modern and peaceful appearance, or regular graphic patterns. Limited patterns and a minimalist design provide clarity in the otherwise very homey atmosphere of MICRO HOUSING. As a result, small rooms should seem larger than they are.
There are many aspects of digitization. The key question is: How is digital technology changing our lives? Of course, we are observing exactly which trends are developing in other areas so that we can work out new tendencies or ideas as well as colors and patterns for interior design. Inspiration might come from the world of fashion or certain accents in the automotive industry. At the moment, ideas connected to new technology are playing a greater role in housing.
The furniture and fittings of a SMART HOME are clear and functional, enriched with many technical features that are rather inconspicuous. Bright wood colors in oak and ash add a subtle natural touch to well-organized living spaces, while wall colors are mainly kept a neutral white or grey. Additionally, textile patterns in light grey bring welcoming materials into the living room and sophisticated stone textures add a modern touch.
A more diverse range of lifestyles, more single people in every age group, patchwork families, intercultural communities, and multi-generational households are changing traditional models. The modern style is characterized by less conventional forms of cohabitation as well as a more conscious approach to the environment.
The COMMUNITY ZONE requires neutral, versatile living spaces instead of a traditional floor plan with a master bedroom, children’s rooms and a central living room. However, concepts such as naturalness and authenticity are extremely important! Oak remains a dominant material and will remain a popular furniture surface in the future. However, there will be more additions in elm or pine – types of wood that still provide good textures and are thus suitable for synchronous textures. Surface haptics will remain an important trend.
The demographic change means saying goodbye to aging as we know it. People today are not simply content with the idea of growing old in their comfort zone. They lead young, modern lifestyles, are open to new things, and have an interest in new technologies in order to experience more in the analog world. They also offer valuable qualities with regard to generational change: wisdom, confidence, and composure. Their focus is on sharing these skills with others.
AGELESS LIVING living spaces will no longer be reserved for specific functions in the future, but will become multifunctional. As a result, living spaces will adapt to individual phases of life. For instance, this target group long since gave up the idea of a strict separation between work, home life, and leisure. Structured room layouts will give way to flexible areas, be it in the living room, home gym, or home office. When it comes to AGELESS LIVING, there is a tendency towards dark colors, sophisticated stone textures, metal surfaces, and dark wood shades in oak or walnut. Contemporary yet timeless furniture and fixtures that suit all age groups are typical for this dark style. In addition to matte black, dark blue plays a central role.
